MAASH Victory! Patrick Approves $7 Million Increase to Cultural Facilities Fund
October 19, 2007
Dear Friends,
Governor Patrick approved the FY 08 supplemental budget this afternoon signing into law the additional $7 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund. MAASH thanks Governor Patrick for recognizing the economic value of investing in the state's cultural facilities-the infrastructure for tourism.
MAASH also thanks Speaker Sal DiMasi and Senate President Therese Murray for initiating the $7 million increase through a joint House/Senate supplemental budget.
MAASH and its statewide advocates generated over 600 letters and e-mails to the Governor in less than week.
With this increase, the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund will have received $25 million in the first two years of appropriations.
MassDevelopment and the Massachusetts Cultural Council will now decide whether to award the additional FY 08 to the first round of applicants or call for a new round of applications.
MAASH thanks all its partners and advocates for the substantial advocacy effort on such short notice with particular thanks to Paul Grogan and the Boston Foundation and to Anita Walker and the MCC.
