Governor Praises Cultural Facilities Funding: Cites $200 Million in Economic Activity
Jan. 25, 2008
Dear Friends,
Governor Deval Patrick hailed cultural facilities funding in his State of the Commonwealth address that he delivered in the House Chamber last night. He specifically cited cultural facilities funding that is generating $200 million in new economic activity:
-
"Ten new movies were produced last year, thanks to the new Film Tax Credit, and cultural facilities are being restored. What does that mean? It's providing new jobs for workers in our creative economy and bringing over $200 million in new economic activity to the Commonwealth."
MAASH thanks Governor Patrick for his leadership in the creative economy and supporting the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund.
And we thank our advocates across the state for supporting MAASH's consistent message about the economic value of the arts, sciences and humanities. When the Governor cites cultural economic development in his annual speech, it is proof that our consistency brings results and that our message is being heard.
We also thank Legislative leaders such as Speaker DiMasi and Senate President Murray for their leadership and commitment to cultural facilities funding. Thank you also to Paul Grogan of the Boston Foundation and Anita Walker of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, our partners in the Campaign for Cultural Facilities.
Congratulations to all on another political step forward.
