Governor Deval Patrick hailed cultural facilities funding in his State of the Commonwealth address that he delivered in the House Chamber last night. He specifically cited cultural facilities funding that is generating $200 million in new economic activity:

For the first time, House 2-the first version of the 2009 state budget-includes funding for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities.

Governor Deval Patrick and Lt. Governor Tim Murray released House 2 at 11:30 this morning calling for a maintenance increase to the Massachusetts Cultural Council budget of $140,768 to $12.4 million.

Creative Challenge Index Reported Favorably by Education Committee

Senate President Therese Murray appointed a Senator-Elect James Marzilli (D-Arlington) the new co-chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development. He joins the House chairman, Rep. Eric Turkington, (D-Falmouth), replacing Senator Brian Joyce (D-Milton) who was named chairman of the Committee on Community Development and Small Business.
