Governor Approves Amendment Dedicating Facilities Funds to Smaller Organizations

Dear Friends,

Yesterday afternoon, Governor Patrick signed the amended FY 08 supplemental budget into law. After approving an additional $7 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund last fall, the Governor returned the supplemental budget to the Legislature requesting changes to the other sections of the budget.

House & Senate Dedicate $5.5 Million Facilities to Small Organizations

Dear Friends, The House and the Senate passed an amendment to the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund that dedicates $5.5 million of the appropriated $25 million to cultural organizations with budgets under $5 million. The amendment to the FY 08 supplemental budget passed on December 28 and the Governor now has until the January 8th to sign or veto it.

With our coalition partners the Boston Foundation and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, we will begin advocating for cultural facilities funding in FY 09 soon.

MAASH Victory! Patrick Approves $7 Million Increase to Cultural Facilities Fund

Governor Patrick approved the FY 08 supplemental budget this afternoon signing into law the additional $7 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund. MAASH thanks Governor Patrick for recognizing the economic value of investing in the state's cultural facilities-the infrastructure for tourism.

MAASH also thanks Speaker Sal DiMasi and Senate President Therese Murray for initiating the $7 million increase through a joint House/Senate supplemental budget.

New Cultural Facilities Funding Approved! House & Senate Agree to Add $7 Million

This evening, the Senate voted to approve the additional $7 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund.

This significant increase to the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund, bringing this year's total appropriation to $12 million, resulted from leadership in both the Senate and the House working together to establish a consensus agreement on facilities funding in the supplemental budget.

Earlier today, the House voted to approve the supplemental budget.

Minutes ago, the House/Senate Conference Committee on this year's budget (FY 08) released a proposed supplemental budget which included an additional $7 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund.

The House of Representatives may vote on this supplemental budget as soon as this afternoon.

The Campaign for Cultural Facilities, the Massachusetts Advocates for the Arts, Sciences & Humanities (MAASH), the Boston Foundation and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, today saluted the historic vote taken by MassDevelopment, the state's finance and development authority, to authorize the first-ever state-funded first grants to expand, improve and restore cultural facilities all across the Commonwealth.

MAASH Wins $5 million for Cultural Facilities Fund: Gov. Supports $174,000 MCC Increase

Governor Patrick signed the FY 08 budget into law today endorsing $5 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund in FY 08.

While the Governor vetoed $41 million worth of spending, he responded to MAASH advocacy (over 500 letters) and maintained the House/Senate Budget increase of $174,000 to the Massachusetts Cultural Council budget and $5 million for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund.
