Governor Patrick Officially Restores All the 9c Budget Cuts $700,000 for the MCC & Grants to Individual cultural Organizations Restored

Late today (January 5)-in his first full day in office-Governor Deval Patrick officially restored all of the 9c budget cuts instituted by outgoing Governor Mitt Romney. All of the $425 million in FY 07 spending that had been eliminated has now been restored, including $700,000 for the Massachusetts Cultural Council and all of the grants designated for individual cultural organizations across the state.

$383 million in state spending that had been cut by outgoing Governor Romney using emergency 9c powers will be restored, according to a statement released by Governor-Elect Deval Patrick. Governor Patrick's actions will restore $700,000 to the Massachusetts Cultural Council budget for this fiscal year as well state grants to 72 cultural and heritage organizations.

Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund Open for Application

The Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund, featuring grants to cultural organizations for facility improvement, expansion, and restoration, is now receiving applications.

Cultural organizations seeking these grants must submit of letter of intent to apply to the Massachusetts Cultural Council on or before Feb. 1, 2007. Applications must be received by the MCC by March 15, 2007.

House & Senate Final Vote to Override Romney's Veto of MCC Increase!

In a fury of legislative action, both the House and the Senate voted today to override Governor Romney's veto of an outside appropriation of $700,000 to the MCC. Thanks to the strong bi-partisan support in both the House and the Senate the total state appropriation for the MCC will rise to $12.1 million, a 26% increase from FY 06.

On Saturday, July 8, Governor Romney issued $573 million in vetoes of the FY 07 state budget including reducing the total budget for arts and culture through the Massachusetts Cultural Council by $2.4 million. Earlier this morning, MAASH delivered a letter to the House leadership on behalf of the cultural community formally asking the House of Representatives to override the Governor's vetoes and restore cultural funding to the $12.1 million approved by the House and the Senate.
