Romney Proposes Slashing MCC by $2.4 Million

Jan. 26, 2006

Dear Advocates,

Governor Romney's proposed FY 07 budget, released yesterday, would reduce state cultural funding for fiscal year 2007, which begins in July, through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) by $2.4 million. MAASH Wins $1.3 million MCC Increase

Dear Friends,

I am very pleased to announce that — thanks to 686 MAASH-generated letters — the Governor has accepted the $1.3 million funding increase to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, providing $9.3 million for cultural programs across the state. MAASH advocates also sent 431 emails to the Lt. Governor.

Thanks to everyone who responded to our call for advocacy. In two years, MAASH has demonstrated strong enough public support to win back-to-back funding increases and to become a focus of a new committee dedicated to Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development.
