(BOSTON) -- A new U-Mass Poll reveals overwhelming support for arts education and public funding for the arts, sciences and humanities in the Bay State.

* 94 percent of Massachusetts residents consider the arts to be as important a part of basic education as math and English.

* 92 percent favor state funding for arts programs in schools.

Cultural Community Takes Aggressive Step to Advocate for State Funding Monday, April 07, 2003

The Massachusetts Advocates for the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities (MAASH) announced today that it has retained The Rasky/Baerlein Group as public affairs and strategic advisors. MAASH is a statewide advocacy network of cultural supporters and organizations dedicated to improving the cultural economy and enhancing the environment for the arts, sciences, and humanities.

The council asked the organizations it funds to detail the effects in a survey. The results: Cuts have eliminated programs, outreach, and jobs. One of the greatest blows is less access for students.

House Recommends 48% Cut; Reduced to 24% by MAASH Efforts
